Shannon is an excellent ed therapist who helped foster a love of learning in my boys, while also teaching them important study skills and tools for reading and writing. The educational foundation she helped build will guide them as they transition to high school and on into college. We are so grateful for Shannon and highly recommend her to others in need of a little extra support.
-Erin U ., mother of two sons with learning differences
Dr. Troy is one of the most refined and qualified educational therapists I’ve had the privilege of working with for ten years. Her background in academic intervention, organizational skills, behavioral training and mindfulness are a powerful combination that guarantee results. Dr. Troy is an incredible partner who works closely with schools, and is a dedicated advocate and ally to students and parents. She is compassionate, extremely professional, highly trained, and she brings authentic and honest perspective to all situations.
Lee S., Learning Specialist, Director of Student Services at The Wesley School
Dr. Troy is the cornerstone of our child's LD scaffolding. We rely on her to keep our child on track academically by providing continuous therapy and collaborating with teachers. She coaches on the use of a toolbox to organize his thoughts for writing, and makes what is challenging more straightforward. Overall she is instilling good academic habits, which can only be achieved with lots of guided practice.
- Naomi T. , mother of 5th grade son
Dr. Shannon Troy is one of the most gifted and hardworking ed therapists I know! I have worked with her for 5 years in a professional capacity and she's my go-to person when I'm really at a loss for what to do in certain situations with students. She sees kids holistically, so she has great insight into how all the parts (brains, bodies, and emotions) work together to impact learning and social-emotional well-being. I have seen kids thrive under her care. She is amazing!
-Diane P., owner of Ignite the Light Educational Therapy LLC and Certified CA Naturalist
Shannon is quite simply awesome. She has been working with our son on strategies for coping with learning differently. Our kid didn’t like school, struggled with homework, and with keeping up in class. But, since working with Shannon, he is engaged, loves school, and makes honor roll! Shannon has shown him how to be a better planner, the importance of staying current with his school work, and given him some confidence that he is smart and can achieve at school. When things get tough, Shannon is a calm voice. She advocates for our kid, and helps him to help himself.
-Alex B., father of son with ADHD
Shannon has been working with my child now for 5 years and has been a tutor, mentor and guide. She has helped my child gain confidence and has provided tools for success. She is flexible when assessing my childs needs and finds the areas in which she can be most effective. As my child evolves so does Shannon. She has played an essential part of my child's academic growth and ability to now work independently. Things would have looked very different if it were not for Shannon. We are forever grateful.
-Dayna T., mother of middle schooler
Under Dr. Shannon Troy's tutelage and guidance, our son has not only vastly improved his ability to understand what he reads, but has become a much more confident and enthusiastic learner within the classroom and outside of it. Dr. Troy approaches her work with compassion, patience, and keen insight, adapting her approach to her clients’ challenges and strengths. So often, schools will lower the bar for students with autism, regarding developmental disability as a hard barrier against higher academic achievement. But Dr. Troy has never coddled our son. Where others see limitations, Dr. Troy identifies great potential, and she cultivates that potential to the fullest.-
- Ed L., father of son with autism
My son and I have been working with Dr. Shannon Troy for more than a year now.
She is a determined professional, fiercely dedicated to her work and firmly believes in the potential of her pupils.
She acknowledges my son as an individual and carefully created a plan that would work for him where he could thrive and not burn out. She is incredibly patient, thinks outside the box and is constantly thinking on how to better herself and her craft.
-Sandra E., mother of son with autism
Dr Troy has been working with my son for several years. Her skills and effectiveness with him as a child to his now young adulthood has always exceeded my expectations and she has been able to shape some very difficult behaviors over time. I feel very fortunate to have found someone like her after trying 2-3 other competent but not exceptional people.
-Susan M., parent of young adult with autism
When my older son was diagnosed with autism at age 2, our developmental pediatrician told us about Shannon and to get on her wait list when he was older. She said that Shannon was the absolute best and could help him with anticipated educational challenges including focus, comprehension, making inferences and abstract thinking. My son worked with Shannon for several years and she gave him strategies to better navigate those challenges. My younger son has ADHD and Shannon helped him with his attention, not rushing through assignments, finding accommodations so he could better express himself through writing and, most importantly, with building his confidence. I have seen first-hand how Shannon can work with different learning profiles and personalities and how her experience as well as her firm but encouraging style is so effective. My developmental pediatrician was right - Shannon is the absolute best!
-Lisa K., mother
Educational therapy is the missing piece of the support puzzle. My 12-year-old son has autism and ADHD and struggles with executive functioning and critical thinking skills. When we started working with Dr. Troy, he was having regular behavior incidents at school, and his grades were well below grade level. She pinpointed our son's unique educational needs and quickly identified why traditional approaches weren't working. She made technology a central focus of my son's school routine, which enabled him to dedicate more effort and attention to the academic task at hand. She also taught him mindfulness techniques that he could use at home and school, which has helped address emotional regulation issues. Dr. Troy gets to the root of the learning issue and crafts a strategy that works for the individual child. She has been and continues to be a valuable member of our support team.
-Juli A., mother of son with learning differences and autism
Dr. Troy has been a lifesaver for my son. My son has ADHD and anxiety issues and she has truly helped him flourish over the past two years. When we initially began therapy my son was barely reading simple sentences. However, now his fluency and comprehension have significantly improved. Not only has Dr. Troy been to provide support, guidance and practical strategies to my son, but she has also assisted me as a parent. She has helped me to advocate for my son by interpreting reports and recommendations from various specialists who have worked with my son and navigate the IEP process, by attending and imparting her expertise when required.
-Jeff H., father
Our daughter, who is autistic, has a unique learning profile — bright, playful, and excellent at decoding, but needing help with pragmatics and comprehension. She is also not motivated by external rewards. It is very difficult to find educators who “get” her and assume competence instead of relying on neurotypical assessments to show what she knows and is capable of learning and understanding. Dr. Troy’s nuanced assessment, knowledge of diverse pedagogical and behavioral techniques, and patient but firm approach have increased our child’s educational stamina, self-confidence, and her ability to express herself. Most importantly, she always leaves her sessions with Dr. Troy happy and well-regulated, even though she is being challenged.
-Zee H., mother
The day our son, who is on the autism spectrum, began working with Shannon was the day that he turned a corner. Up until then, we had seen him make strides with the help of speech and occupational therapy, but we were at a loss as to how to help him navigate school and the academic experience. It felt like he was just getting through the school day, which frustrated and exhausted him and left us feeling helpless. Through his work with Shannon, a new side of him emerged: he is engaged at school and excited to share what he’s learning, he is proud of his work, and he is confident. He actually enjoys school! Our only regret is that we did not start educational therapy with Shannon sooner.
-Adrienne C., mother
Dr. Shannon has been a crucial resource for our family as we navigate our two kids' near profiles. She has developed a deep understanding of each of our children (despite their many differences!) and advocates for their needs with teachers, therapists, and even us. I can't recommend her highly enough; she is one of the cornerstones of our support.
Kathleen T., mother
We truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Shannon Troy. She has worked with both of our boys with learning differences and has helped them both tremendously. I don’t know how we would have survived Distance Learning or the following academic year without her.
Dr. Troy is incredibly well integrated with our boys’ school, and she works seamlessly with their teachers. During Distance Learning, our younger son got more from 45 minute sessions with Dr. Troy than he did during the rest of the school day. She has helped our older son tremendously with Executive Functioning and has helped bring both of them up to, and in some subjects above, grade level. Dr. Troy was the first to let us know when she thought our younger son didn’t need Ed Therapy any longer, but she also checked in with his teachers and knew when he was falling a bit behind again and could use some support.
Perhaps the highest compliment I can give Dr. Troy is that our boys look forward to working with her. There is rarely, if ever, a complaint from them when we tell them it’s time to see her. She has a wonderful demeanor and grace about her that makes her very approachable. We highly recommend Dr. Shannon Troy as an Educational Therapist!

Finding out that you have a child who is neurodivergent can induce feelings of fear, anxiety, distress, and general helplessness. Your immediate instinct is to find the very best care for your child so that they can thrive and turn their "disability" into a "superpower." Dr. Shannon Troy is at the top of the list of professionals who do just that. She is gifted beyond words. Not only does she understand your child and their needs, but also your child will feel seen, heard and incredibly supported.
Dr. Troy is able to connect to even the most resistant child, working with them to unlock their abilities to learn, allowing them to integrate into and thrive in their required learning environments. She builds their confidence by giving them the necessary tools to become active participants in the classroom. Her incredible ability to communicate with and articulate the needs to
teachers, administrators and parents, often acting as the intermediary/facilitator, has ensured that our child gets exactly what she needs. I cannot express enough how critical this when you are navigating the relationship with the school, no matter how accommodating the school is. She elevates the entire process. We would be absolutely lost without Dr. Shannon Troy and are so grateful that she is in our lives.
